'MobileMuster' is the official recycling program of the mobile phone industry. Initiated by the Australian telecommunications industry in 1999, its aim is to ensure unwanted mobiles don't end up in landfill at the end of their life, but are recycled.
This free recycling service, funded solely by its members, has a network of over 3,500 drop-off points across Australia. People can also post in their old mobiles by either using a free reply paid recycling satchel available from Australia Post outlets or downloading a free post mailing label from www.mobilemuster.com.au. Alternatively they will help you run a muster at your school or office and will collect and recycle the mobiles for free.
Australian's have an estimated 14 to 16 million old and unused mobile phones stashed away in their cupboards and drawers at home and work.
'MobileMuster' runs various campaigns throughout the year in partnership with mobile phone retailers, schools, businesses, local councils and communities encouraging mobile phone recycling.
The school campaigns include some great educational and promotional resources all free of charge, so when it comes to old mobile phones, batteries, chargers and accessories the message is simple, "Round 'em up, hand 'em in!"
