Lessons and activity sheets

Curriculum-linked unit of work, cross-curricular lesson ideas and accompanying activity sheets (see right-hand column), written for lower primary students, on the topic of Australian coins.

Unit of work

In the early years of schooling, students begin to learn about money and financial mathematics by exploring Australian coins. They learn to recognise, describe and order coins according to their values and experiment with counting small coin collections.

Here you will find a five-lesson unit of work that educates about Australian coins. The lessons are aimed at students in Foundation to Year 2 and Australian Curriculum links are provided.

Each lesson follows a whole class introduction, small group activities, and whole class conclusion format.

Cross-curricular resources

There are additional cross-curricular lesson ideas that are focused on Australian coins and designed to support the unit of work.
