Unit of work

In the early years of schooling, students begin to learn about money and financial mathematics by exploring Australian coins. They learn to recognise, describe and order coins according to their values and experiment with counting small coin collections.

Here you will find a five-lesson unit of work investigating Australian coins. The lessons are aimed at students in Foundation to Year 2 and Australian Curriculum links are provided.

Each lesson follows a whole class introduction, small group activities, and whole class conclusion format.

Cross-curricular resources

There are extra cross-curricular lesson ideas focused on Australian coins to support the unit of work.
